Hundreds of people descended on Huntington Beach  on Sunday, Oct. 11th, 2009 for the Inaugural  Surf City Surf Dog competition.  The Surf City Surf Dog brought together the community, surfers, dog lovers, charities, families and pets for a day of fun at Huntington Dog Beach. At the event there were Interactive exhibits, dog rescue booths, contests and more. There were  an estimated 2,000+ dog lovers  at this first surf competition and Expo. The Surf Dog Contest included Small, Medium, Large and Tandem Dog/Human Heats.  Other events include Best in Show Costume Contest, Hot Diggity Dog Expo, and a 2-mile Woofin' Walk.

Boston Buddies was one of the proud charity recipients for this event. Boston Buddies formed a surf team of five members - three of whom are alumni rescue dogs. Boston Buddies Surf Team USA arrived at Huntington Beach in the early morning to begin hanging twenty. The Boston Buddies Surf Team USA included Bubba, Loofa, Magneto, Mugsy and Pixie.  Their first heat was a success, and Magneto and Pixie made it to the finals. The tide was high during the finals making it dificult for the Bostons to hang twenty; however, they endured the round.  Magneto won the Crowd Pleaser Award!

This event helped Boston Buddies raise over $500 towards our cause.

Thanks to all who supported the Surf Team!
